Registered Former Sex Offenders
One thing that it is important to do is to emphasize that while at one time a Sex Offense was committed that it is in the past. So when talking or writing about the Registry and other Sex Offender Issues it is vital that we use the word Former. These laws punish people for something that was done in the past not something that is happening now. It calls attention to the fact that a change has happened. Every time you say Registered Sex Offender it tells the listeners mind that it is on going. A horrible image is projected and the listener already has made up their mind to not empathize with our cause. But insert the word Former and it changes the perception of the listener. It's a small change granted but it will make a big impact in the long run.
